Not far away, there are many other interesting places you can get to on your own: the historical Cividale del Friuli, Goriška Brda, where you can taste some excellent wine, Bled and Bohinj (by taking the car-train), the underground world of the Postojna and Škocjan caves, the idyllic coastal town of Piran or even the capital Ljubljana and, always a pleasure, Venice.
